Although our sins testify(A) against us,
    do something, Lord, for the sake of your name.(B)
For we have often rebelled;(C)
    we have sinned(D) against you.
You who are the hope(E) of Israel,
    its Savior(F) in times of distress,(G)
why are you like a stranger in the land,
    like a traveler who stays only a night?
Why are you like a man taken by surprise,
    like a warrior powerless to save?(H)
You are among(I) us, Lord,
    and we bear your name;(J)
    do not forsake(K) us!

17 “Ah, Sovereign Lord,(A) you have made the heavens and the earth(B) by your great power and outstretched arm.(C) Nothing is too hard(D) for you. 18 You show love(E) to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps(F) of their children(G) after them. Great and mighty God,(H) whose name is the Lord Almighty,(I) 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.(J) Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind;(K) you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve.(L) 20 You performed signs and wonders(M) in Egypt(N) and have continued them to this day, in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown(O) that is still yours. 21 You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand(P) and an outstretched arm(Q) and with great terror.(R) 22 You gave them this land you had sworn to give their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.(S) 23 They came in and took possession(T) of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law;(U) they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster(V) on them.

24 “See how the siege ramps(W) are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague,(X) the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said(Y) has happened,(Z) as you now see. 25 And though the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, you, Sovereign Lord, say to me, ‘Buy the field(AA) with silver and have the transaction witnessed.(AB)’”
